Let's Do This ... Together.

Let's Do This ... Together.

There is beauty in unity.

All of us who call Flagstaff home have faced, and are facing, some of our most challenging times. I believe we can-- and must-- face these challenges together.

When I sought appointment to the Flagstaff City Council in April 2022, it was from a desire to take my love of serving the people of Flagstaff to the next level, to elevate not my own voice but the voices of those often unheard in our community, and to continue to fight for Beloved Community. Beloved Community is a concept often referenced alongside the theories, principles, and practices of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with origins credited to the American philosopher Josiah Royce, who in 1913 wrote, "My life means nothing, either theoretically or practically, unless I am a member of a community."1 According to Royce, Beloved Community is when, and where, community becomes "capable of achieving the highest good as well as the common good."2 Dr. King would go on to expand on this ideology, to envision community driven by the kind of spirit and love "that can transform opposers into friends ... that will transform the deep gloom of the old age into the exuberant gladness of the new age ... which will bring about miracles."3

This is the vision of Unity in Community that I hope to continue to bring to Flagstaff City Council. I believe Flagstaff, a rich and culturally diverse city of innovation and creativity, is uniquely poised to build and live Beloved Community: community that is driven by inclusion, interconnectivity, compassion, responsibility, justice, the unique ability to share power and see value in a multitude of voices, and a deep love, respect, and appreciation of all people, places, and spaces.

I humbly ask you all to join me on a journey to a vibrant, equitable, and unified community. I seek the privilege of continuing to serve as your City Council public servant to continue elevating your voices, seeking your unique perspectives, and bringing as many people to the table as possible. I believe in building bridges, cultivating connection, and advocating for you, the people, each and all of you, as the valuable voices that will guide Flagstaff into a brighter, more beautiful, and Beloved Community. If you agree, I humbly ask that you write in my name, KHARA HOUSE, on your ballot this November for Flagstaff City Council.

Let's do this, Flagstaff ... together.
